Hello! Thank you for stopping by Penchant for Picnics. Here are a few tidbits about myself. I grew up in a family that loved to cook, entertain, garden and converse over dinner about the most current Gourmet or Bon Appetit magazine that just arrived in the mail. Born in Spain, my family settled in Colorado with stories of sherry bodegas and tapas fueled by the memories of a life less ordinary.
Fast forward to me in college working on a bachelors degree and hosting dinner parties for my friends on the weekends. I was now pouring over my own cookbooks, going to farmers markets and amassing the right tools for my kitchen. Ok.....another jump in time to my first job out of college, working for the Forest Service in Oregon (botanist). While surveying in the woods for specific plant specimens, I was also harvesting chanterelles, picking wild berries, gathering nettles and planning out that nights dinner in my head. I'm guessing you can see a common theme here.
These days I'm trying to recreate all the culinary magic of my youth with my own sweet little family. This blog is simply a journal that allows me to share some of my life experiences with a bit of visual storytelling. With a love of nature and its inherent ability to slow life down, Penchant for Picnics is about embracing tender moments.
